Learning gateway for higher / further education
There is no doubt that the environment for today's student is markedly different. There is a DfES commitment to lifelong learning from the age of 14 in the longer term and the formation of a 'Lifelong Learning Record' is part of this. The DfES has outlined six priorities each for further and higher education which embrace e-learning and the need for collaboration.

Lifelong learning
In parallel with the e-learning strategy other major changes are being embraced including the equirement for all students to have an e-Portfolio that grows through the lifelong learning experience. Morse, as one of the Learning Gateway partners, can provide this using its own electronic Document and Records Management System (eDRMS), Wisdom. Using the latest collaboration and communication technologies, the Microsoft Learning Gateway provides a single point of access that can be personalised by students, teachers and administrators to create productive, thriving communities across a single campus or many institutions. By connecting with their peers worldwide, tutors can promote great new ways of teaching; students can share knowledge and broaden their horizons; and policy makers can exchange and enhance best practices.

The Wisdom e-Portfolio is built on a .NET platform and is tightly integrated with the core of the Microsoft Learning Gateway. This will not only provide the institution with a student e-Portfolio but will also add further value by providing an Document Records Management System to manage the ever increasing volume of documents and records whether they be in a paper based or electronic format. Wisdom is approved by The National Archives in their 2002 testing and can improve efficiency within organisations by providing an easier searching facility for documents and records, automate business processes through its workflow server and attach retention policies to documents and records so that disk storage is minimised from both a physical and management aspect.
